Reno is a unique city. It has all the virtues of a big city, the community of a small city, and natural resources all around. Anything you may want, Reno has to offer. And we’re proud at Bluecrew to be part of Reno’s businesses and community.

Our Bluecrew team started staffing in Reno in 2017. A few large warehouses with thriving businesses needed help hiring the Warehouse Associates and Packers they needed to keep customers happy. Obviously, we were excited to pitch in, and we’ve been growing in Reno ever since.

After those initial Reno warehouse jobs, we started to branch out. Our Crew Members have been working in manufacturing positions and cooking jobs; as drivers and movers and much more, across Reno and the surrounding area. With nearly 3,000 local workers, we love getting to build new partnerships with different businesses to help provide great, local W-2 jobs to Reno’s residents.

In response to coronavirus, like most states, Nevada took on a “shelter-in-place” order to keep residents home and healthy. More recently the entire state joined the Western States Pact to organize reopening with the states of Washington, California, and Oregon. All of this has been in an effort to minimize confusion and keep individuals safe.

Now Reno, and the rest of Nevada, has moved into phase 1 of reopening. While there are still many limitations - for example, restaurants are limited to 50% capacity and bar areas must remain closed - it is exciting to see Reno’s people, including hospitality workers, getting closer to their regular lives and jobs. While we’ve been working with essential businesses in Reno to keep their warehouses and fulfillment teams fully staffed, we are looking forward to helping more Crew Members get back to work in non-essential industries.

With Nevada on our mind, we reached out to one of our Bluecrew’s Reno team members to give us his take on his favorite city.

Meet Calder, a Reno native and Regional Sales Manager for Bluecrew.

What do you love about Reno?

I was born and raised in "The Biggest Little City in the World," and I love it here. Many people don’t realize how much Reno has to offer. People come from all over the world to visit the Reno/Tahoe area, and I have been lucky enough to have it in my backyard. That’s definitely something to be thankful for. Reno is a great city, and it’s surrounded by so much beautiful nature. I grew up learning to ski and snowboard at Lake Tahoe's Mt. Rose, just minutes away, and Reno has some fantastic camping spots 30 minutes outside of town. There is so much to do and so much to be thankful for living here. Plus, we were the stage for the movie Kingpin.

How have you seen Bluecrew make an impact in Reno?

I have been with Bluecrew for about two years, and we’ve grown a lot in that time. There are so many companies here in my hometown that are in dire need of good team members, especially when they have last-minute openings. It feels great to help our Crew Members find local, long-term jobs that they love. It’s the best of both worlds helping people make extra income and get good Reno jobs while helping businesses out as well.

What has Reno been like during shelter-in-place?

Business has slowed down, especially with the closing of the casinos - they’re a big part of Nevada’s economy. But I’m glad that we have a strong community here in Reno filled with resilient people. This definitely isn’t ideal, but we’re making the best of it.

On a personal level, I miss traveling. Usually, I am on the road a lot helping our sales team connect with companies across the western United States. I am looking forward to getting back to that life on the other side of these closures, and to also seeing Reno up and running again like usual.

What are your favorite Reno Bluecrew memories?

It’s always fun for me when Bluecrew makes the right match between a customer and a worker, and when we get to make a real difference for a company that needs help. I recently had a new customer that was hurting for a driver to fill a roll last minute. We ended up filling the position quickly, and she was so impressed by not just how quickly we did it but by what a great Crew Member they were matched with! Right now, she is actually looking to hire that same driver on full-time. It means a lot when we’re able to do what we set out to do - match the right person with the right job every time.

Oddly enough, this has come right at the time of my two-year Bluecrew anniversary. I love working for a company that truly changes workers’ lives, and it’s also changed my life. I didn’t know anything about the staffing industry or Bluecrew’s technology, and I’ve learned so much. Being surrounded by so many smart, supportive, dedicated people here has been amazing. We really are changing the world of staffing!
